Sobey Art Award
Championing visual arts in Canada, the Sobey Art Award is one of the most generous prizes for contemporary artists in the world.
Founded in 2002, the Sobey Art Award is funded by the Sobey Art Foundation (SAF) and organized and presented by the National Gallery of Canada (NGC). The Award propels the careers of artists through financial support and recognition in Canada and beyond.
This year, a total of $465,000 in prize money was awarded: $100,000 to the overall winner, $25,000 to each of the shortlisted artists, and $10,000 to the remaining long-listed artists. In addition, the six shortlisted artists are featured in an exhibition at the National Gallery of Canada on view until April 6, 2025.
Our sincere congratulations go to the six artists shortlisted for the 2024 Sobey Art Award. We look forward to engaging with their work and celebrating their achievements over the coming months. This is a momentous year as our partners at the NGC have worked with an artist-led jury to recognize the work of homegrown artists from six regions across Canada. We are honoured to work with all the artists participating in this year’s award process and are particularly excited for the first-ever exhibition featuring works from six regions.
