Unknown (Japanese)
Workmen's Holiday, c.1870-1899

This late 19th-century photograph shows the delicate hand-colouring for which the Japanese are famous. In many Japanese prints, the colour is so carefully applied that it is difficult to tell whether the original print is in colour. This photograph is one of a series of Japanese scenes made by a Japanese photographer for a Japanese public.
